If you are a citizen of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program, you can apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) for tourist or limited business stays.
ESTA is suitable for:Holiday trips and tourist stays
Short-term business trips (e.g. visits to business partners, suppliers or customers)
Participation in meetings, conferences or negotiations
ESTA is not suitable for:
Studying or training in the USA
Activities that are paid by a US company
Assembly, service or similar assignments
No ESTA possible for:
Persons who were in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, North Korea or Yemen after 01.03.2011 and for travelers who have been in Cuba since 2021.
In these cases, a USA visa is required.
ESTA validity: up to 2 years (provided the passport is valid)
ESTA duration of stay: maximum 90 days per stay
ESTA processing time: approx. 3 working days by the US authorities (depending on public holidays)

All travelers who cannot apply for an ESTA require a visa for the USA, which is issued by the US Embassy in Vienna.
This applies, for example, to people with a different nationality or a travel purpose that goes beyond the ESTA.
The required documents, the visa validity and the processing time depend on the respective visa category (e.g. B1/B2, E, L, etc.).
A personal interview at the US Consulate Vienna is mandatory for every applicant.
