Entering the USA - Federal Foreign Office warns of arrests when entering the USA

Good afternoon,

The Foreign Office warns after arrests of individual Germans entering the USA that "previous convictions in the USA, false information on the purpose of stay or even a slight overstay" can lead to arrest and detention pending deportation.

Please bear this in mind when applying for the appropriate visa category and entering the USA.

There are currently also stricter checks of visa documents at the U.S. Embassy in Vienna and rejections of various visa categories.

HOLIDAYS Arab countries

Due to the end of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, there will be delays in processing times at many Arab consulates over the next 2 weeks. Most Arab consulates will also be closed from 31.03.2025 to 02.04.2025.

Mandatory ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for the United Kingdom (UK) from 2.4.2025

United Kingdom (UK) / Great Britain:

From 2 April 2025, Austrian and many other nationals will be required to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before entering the country

.

This applies to both tourism and business purposes.

The ETA can be applied for via the ÖVKG since 5.3.2025.

The ÖVKG will be happy to provide you with more information on the purpose and exceptions.

CHINA - currently no express and urgent processing possible

Due to technical problems, the Consulate of China is currently unable to carry out express and urgent visa processing, only normal processing (approx. 7 days).

We ask you to take this into account and will contact you as soon as the consulate has solved the technical problems.
